  • Guera- Mexican Bully Mix, Demo Dog and Inspiration

    Meet, Guera!

Pronounced like “wear- a”. Or, otherwise formally known as G, Mama, Mama G, Peach, Toots... and a whole lot more. She is sweet and spicy, and is the backbone to Kate N K9s.

Guera is a rescue from the streets of Playa del Carmen, Mexico. She was found by a local women and brought to the shelter; Playa Animal Rescue. Guera lived here for approximately 1.5 years before she was brought to Canada as a Foster-to-Adopt through DIBS Rescue.

I brought G home in October of 2020 and was quickly whiplashed by her behaviours. She was nothing short of an “easy dog”, aside from the fact she was insanely food motivated!

Go figure- a food motivated street dog.

Guera has overcome leaps and bounds in her training and has since become my demo dog.

From being dog/ people reactive, to neutral and social- fearful to confident- she has established a balanced mindset and loves to work.

Aside from work- she is a huge fan of off leash adventures, sleeping in sun puddles, and being with her people. She is equal parts potato and adventure dog and will sleep all day or hike 10km!

  • Kate- Owner, Trainer

    Meet, Kate!

I have always had a deep love and passion for animals, however this was amplified when I adopted Guera.

Guera flipped my perspective on dog ownership when her true colours began to shine, post-adoption. She was reactive to other dogs, people, loud noises and objects, etc. At that time, trainers suggested Guera be muzzled, sedated with medication and that she would never have dog friends or live a “normal” life.

Unlike most trainers, my educational background stems from my post secondary studies focusing on human behaviour- specifically those on the Autism Spectrum.

It was then when I was able to apply this knowledge, to the art of balanced training.

This is where our journey together began that is now the inspiration behind Kate N K9’s! We believe that not one training style suits all and that a balanced approach to training may foster an environment for our dogs to thrive.

We can't wait to embark on this journey with you!

  • Riggs- Staffy, Youngest and Goofiest

    Meet, Riggs!

The newest member of our pack! Otherwise referred to as Piggs, Stitch, Chonk… and like Guera- the list goes on!

Riggs is a Staffordshire Bull Terrier, bred by world renowned, Rolona Kennels. Riggs came home to us in 2024 and is the most goofy, snuggly and determined little lad.

Riggs loves to bug hunt, play tug, and follow his sister around. He is 100% the annoying little brother interested in where his sisters going, what she’s smelling and why she wont give him the time of day (she’s learning to love him).

Though Riggs has just begun his training journey, were so excited to see what he’ll accomplish and who he’ll mature into!
